Booking Now! Field Trip: Wildfell Woodland Creation Project in Wethersfield, Braintree, Essex. This is a 50.09ha woodland creation scheme with a focus on not using plastic where possible, but understanding the needs of different types of planting and individual areas. We will look at two recently planted areas of the project which have been fenced and haven’t used plastic tree guards.
Our guide will also talk about the sparing use of vole guards and spirals in hedgerows outside the woodland. This site has also used badger tubes instead of gates within the fences, to help stop muntjac accessing the fenced off areas whilst allowing the badgers access. This is a large scheme for Essex, planted primarily on arable and grassland, with the help of EWCO funding.
